As dentists, we are committed to preserving your natural teeth for as long as possible. However, despite regular cleaning and care, as well as advances in preservative dental treatments, sometimes it simply isn’t possible to save your teeth and extraction is the most viable option to keep the rest of the mouth as healthy as possible.
The trouble is, when you lose teeth or have them extracted, it can affect the function and appearance of your teeth. This can leave you feeling ashamed, embarrassed and unwilling to speak, smile or share social situations with people around you.
Dentures are one possible restorative solution that can help to return the function and beauty of your smile.
What are dentures?
Dentures are a replacement for either a full or partial arch of missing or extracted teeth. They are created using a line of prosthetic teeth which are attached to a special fitting that sits over the top of your gums and is securely bonded to them using dental adhesive.
They can be created from a variety of synthetic materials including acrylic, nylon and metal, and can be custom-finished in the shade of your choice. This means that you can achieve discretion by having them match other existing teeth, or in the case of a full set of both upper and lower dentures, have them created in the whiteness you desire to achieve a brilliant smile.
Advantages of dentures
Dentures offer a number of benefits to patients. These include:
- Restoring the function of your teeth, allowing you to eat, drink and speak normally
- Restoring your smile, and often improving on the appearance of your natural teeth
- Improving your confidence and self-esteem
- Adding structure to the face, raising the jawline, plumping the cheeks and giving patients a more youthful appearance
Our Technology
At EQ Dental, we use the latest dental technology to help us provide exemplary restorative services, which extends to our dentures service. Using the i-CAT Cone Beam, we can undertake comprehensive 3D imaging of your mouth, using customizable field of view to allow us to see targeted areas of interest. This technology also helps us to plan your treatment with greater accuracy.
We then used E4D CAD/CAM technology to take impressions of your teeth and to design your unique full or partial dentures. Your device will then be created in our offices, and can be milled, polished and glazed in under 90 minutes. Why wait weeks for a dental restoration when we can provide it for you the very same day?
Looking after your dentures
Dentures are prosthetic which means that they cannot develop cavities. However, they will still need to be cared for to prevent them from becoming discolored, stained or otherwise unsightly. Therefore, in addition to brushing and flossing any natural teeth that you have, you will also have to remove and clean your dentures on a daily basis.
Dentures are quite brittle and so many people choose to brush them over a sink of water or folded towel to prevent them from breaking if they are dropped. They should also be soaked overnight in a special solution which will help to remove any food particles or bacteria that may still be present on your dentures after you have cleaned them.
You can expect to need some regular maintenance of your dentures, as they can be affected by wear and tear. We will ask you about the performance of your dentures and check them at your regularly scheduled dental check-ups.
If you have multiple missing teeth that are affecting the use and appearance of your teeth, then dentures could be the solution you are looking for.
