DENTURES AND PARTIAL DENTURES

At EQ Dental, we are committed to preserving our patients’ natural teeth for as long as possible. However, sometimes advanced dental trauma or decay can make it impossible to save a patient’s teeth, making extraction the most viable option to keep the rest of the mouth as healthy as possible.

Unfortunately, when patients lose teeth, it affects both the function and appearance of their smile. This can leave patients feeling ashamed and too embarrassed to speak or share their smile in social situations. Dentures are one of the most popular restorative solutions for restoring the function and beauty of a smile.

What are dentures?

Dentures are a replacement for either a full or partial arches of missing or extracted teeth. They are created using a line of prosthetic teeth which are attached to a special fitting that sits over the top of the gums. In some cases, dentures are securely bonded to the gums using a dental adhesive.

Dentures can be created from a variety of synthetic materials including acrylic, nylon, and sometimes metal. They are then custom-finished in the shade of your choice. This means that you can achieve discretion by having them match other existing teeth, or in the case of a full set of both upper and lower dentures, you can choose the level of whiteness you desire to achieve a more brilliant smile.

Advantages of dentures

Dentures offer a number of benefits to patients. These include:

● Restoring the function of your teeth, allowing you to eat, drink, and speak naturally

● Restoring your smile, and often improving on the appearance of your natural teeth

● Improving your confidence and self-esteem

● Adding structure to the face, raising the jawline, plumping the cheeks and giving patients a more youthful appearance

The i-CAT Cone Beam denture technology provides faster and easier 3D imaging along with enhanced planning to create more stable and better functioning dentures.

Looking after your dentures

Dentures are prosthetic which means that they cannot develop cavities. However, dentures still need to be cared for to prevent them from becoming discolored, stained, or otherwise unsightly. Therefore, in addition to brushing and flossing any natural teeth that you have, you will also have to remove and clean your dentures on a daily basis.

We recommend brushing your dentures over a sink of water or folded towel to prevent them from breaking if they are dropped. They should also be soaked overnight in a special solution which will help to remove any food particles or bacteria still be present after cleaning them.

Like most dental restorations, dentures require routine maintenance, as they can be affected by routine wear and tear. We will assess the health of your dentures and ask about their performance at your regularly scheduled dental appointments.

If you have multiple missing teeth that are affecting the use and appearance of your teeth, dentures are a cost-effective solution.
